I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 that I bought in 2005 it runs so hot I didn’t know what to do I read info on every cooling system. What were the pros and cons. This has the best design it tilts the laptop up there is a fan directly underneath that is large enough to cool by 15.6″ laptop. It runs quiet it’s not an airplane engine it quietly gets the job done. I highly recommend it. I can’t think of a con all I can say is Belkin did their homework. I am so glad a waited and found this one.

Is this really a top-rated cooling pad?
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Well, that’s what it said on the box anyway. I didn’t have time to order one, so I picked up one of these at Wal-Mart (cost more than amazon).

It looked a bit odd, but pickings were slim at my neighborhood Wal-Mart.

I got it home, plugged it into my laptop and sat down. Things went downhill from there. First, the little “stand” kept falling down and it starting making a grinding noise. So, I shifted around a little and the noise subsided a bit, but not much. Then the fan started getting louder and louder.

Bottom line: It DOES cool the laptop, but it will probably annoy you constantly. If it is sitting on a hard surface it isn’t so bad; otherwise, be prepared, cursing will begin shortly after first use.

Desperately hoping this is not the general state of affairs for cooling pads in general…

I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my girlfriend. There are a number of, what I consider to be, serious design flaws. Do the designers use or even test these things before they put them on the market? Out of the box, I really liked to idea of the storage compartment on the bottom for the power cord. It’s large enough to store earbuds, a thumb drive, or other small accessories in. However, the bottom of the unit is curved, so the cover for the storage compartment is difficult to get on. The drop down foot is poorly done. It does not lock into place at all and is weighted strangely, so if you pick up the unit and try to set it down, the footstand collapses. Not a dealbreaker, but extremely annoying, particularly if your laptop is on it. Then, after only a couple months of use, the fan in mine started making extremely loud grinding noises and barely turned. After banging on it, I got it to shut up and perform a bit better, but it is something I have to do with great frequency. In the meantime, it is falling apart. Then a short while later, my girlfriend’s did the same thing, eventually stopping completely. Being plagued with design flaws, cheaply made and completely unreliable, I would say to anyone to keep looking. DO NOT BUY THIS!

This is extremely easy to use- but it seems extremely flimsy. The plastic feels cheap, the fan is noisy, and the design of the product is poor in my opinion in that the “stand” at the bottom does not lock into place – so that if i scoot it away from me – it collapses. Additionally – my laptop slides off the top quite easily. Very poor design. I cannot stand this product – though it does keep my laptop cooler.

    Belkin Cooling Pad
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This pad is great for notebook PC’s and Macs. Notebooks tend to run a little hot when they’re plugged in and recharging. The Cooling Pad’s fan does a great job of dispersing the heat efficiently, with a minimum of fan noise. Any machine runs better when it doesn’t overheat, and my Mac stays cooler, which I’m sure will help it last longer.

The Cooling Pad is great as a table stand, and the front leg can be folded in so that it sits on your lap, too, although you have to be conscious of not blocking the fan input located at the bottom center of the pad.

Overall, a very good product at an affordable price.

I got the use of my old laptop back!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My laptop started to shut down everyday, several time a day, without warning. This went on for months. The screen would just go blank as if someone yanked out the battery. I tried almost everything – defraging, deleting files to free up the drive, used all sorts of software tools to tweak the system; nothing worked. I was gonna try reloading XP. I finally ‘googled’ the problem I was having and discovered the problem could be an over-heating laptop; it used to get pretty hot(even the mouse pad got burning hot!) I downloaded a free program called Notebook Hardware Control & found out my laptop was running at the danger threshold of almost 100 degrees C! I immediately went out & purchased this cooling pad. Since I’ve started to use it, there has not been one shut down episode – wow! Now my laptop stays cool, never exceeding 75C and thankfully I can enjoy the use of my old laptop again. One complaint – the adjustable leg should be redesigned for sturdiness. Good effort Belkin!

    Power Connector Port Disappears!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After about 4-5 months of everyday use the power connector port popped out of place. Very cheap construction on belkin’s part. This was not due to any misuse what so ever. It is not even worth it to pay for shipping to replace it. The fan can also be very loud at random times or when first starting up. As other people said you need to use the pull out prop when on a flat surface otherwise this will rock back and forth when typing or pressing on the keyboard.

Overall very cheap build quality. I’ve owned several laptop coolers and this one is plastic junk. Might be worth it to spend the extra money and get an aluminum one if you use your laptop a lot.

    Great until it broke
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
this was a great way to cool off my laptop, but after about 3 months of use the back legs broke , once they broke it was completely useless, the fan still works and everything, but i can’t use it because it can’t stand up anymore. the legs are made of thin plastic that connect at 2 points to the back of the cooler, they need to be much thicker or connect at more points. so its back to fan shopping for me.

Fan started making motor-like noise within a month

Note that I did not use this fan constantly and I owned it for only a month. The fan started sounding motor-ish only after short uses.

    DO NOT RECOMMEND!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased this cooling pad in mid-July because my laptop was over heating, and because i wanted to elevate so i would be able to use it for my lap. First of all, the fan sounds like a jet engine. However, since my laptop is also loud, i was able to over look this, however my mom couldn’t stand the pad because the fan was just to loud! second, you can’t have it plugged in, and the feet in because it crimps the wire, and the wire is just BARELY long enough to reach, but can still be awkward, so i can’t really use it on my lap. Finally, the damn stand broke after 4 months of use. i was sitting there typing a paper and the little feet just snapped off. do not buy this, it is not worth the money!

Works when it wants to work!

Purchased this Belkin fan 2 months ago. The first 3 weeks it was quiet and working well. Began to get louder and louder as weeks progressed. Sometimes it just makes noise and blows nothing, ugh! I have to plug ad unplug it to get it to work now.I would think this product would last at least a year. I have many other Belkin products and love them. This one is a piece of garbage. I will need to go purchase another and it will not be a Belkin!

    Lasted 3 weeks…

I purchased this fan…noticed first thing the cheaply made legs that pop out. Well the legs actually broke off the next week. The fan did actually keep my laptop cool until the third week, when it started making loud noises. NEVER ever will buy another Belkin.

    Worked for a short time.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this product for my laptop and it worked great for the first 2 weeks. Then the fans just quit. I even made sure there wasn’t dust around the fans by blowing them out with a can of duster and still nothing! I wouldn’t waste my money!

    Slip Sliding Away
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
T didn’t like it at all.Kept sliding off my lap desk and laptop kept sliding all over the pad. I would have given it a 1 but my daughter grabbed it before I could return it and she likes it fine. so take your pick beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Will say it was very quiet.
