Lots of computer for the money!

I am very pleased with this purchase. It’s an amazing amount of computer for the small amount I paid for it.

I did have one hiccup with it while initializing the computer — the hard drive wasn’t connected! And while I strenuously object to calling Tech Support and talking to someone in India who is hard to understand, my call was quick, simple and the problem was resolved in a very few minutes.

When my older computer started messing up and uncontrollably rebooting (BTW if someone knows a remedy to fixing this problem – please contact me asap). I didn’t know what to do. So of course the thought of buying a new computer was mind blowing because you have yo get the most up to date computer that is fast and efficient enough for today’s technologies.

I’d like to thank the economy for being as it is right now. THANK YOU RECESSION. Without you I may not have found or been able to buy a proficient computer product as this ComPaq Presario. Works very very well. It’s awesome foplks. I highly recommend this product. Not 5 stars, 10-stars really.

Mine works perfectly, unlike the one who labeled theirs JUNK. It does come minimally equipped, I added 2 hard drives from my PC that blew the Motherboard, and had to add another DVD too.

They only have 2 SATA connectors on the power supply, but adapters took care of that. 4 SATA data connectors on the motherboard. We have 7 puters at home so we sorta know stuff and can fix stuff.

I keep extra power supplies here so will be changing that soon the main sore spot, but it seems to be a great puter. Wish I was smart enough to have bought 4 more at the same time, no more left, I just checked…..

Apparently the person who labeled this as JUNK installed something that made their system go crazy. And if it really WAS bad to start with it would be covered under warantee!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll bet it was a kid who wrote that……

Purchased and used this desktop for about a month. The price is outstanding at this time for a computer with dual core processorCompaq Presario CQ5110F Desktop PC The processor is an AMD 7550

There is some adjustment moving from XP to Vista and this computer also is eligible for the new Windows 7 operating system which will be another adjustment.

Contacted HP technical support twice on some start up issues, they offered outstanding service. This computer has performed well and has exceeded my expectations for a low end dual core desktop.

I have had two versions of this computer bought through Amazon. The first one had a defective sound card. The replacement freezes at will, for no apparent reason.I have spent hours on the phone with HP/Compaq and no one can figure out why. Amazon will not send another replacement, claiming it is no longer in stock.DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER.

    OK machine with problems

This new machine, a Compaq CQ5110F, worked fine for about one week, after expending a lot of effort loading and updating new software, and transferring files from my old computer.

Then the machine started acting erratically (Blue Screen of Death) and it turned out to be a problem with the memory. On line searches of the “BIOME-1″ error code shows that other folks have the same problem with Compaq or H-P devices so I feel this happens more often than it should. My machine was also powered through a surge suppressor.

HP wants me to ship the computer to a service center instead of just having it serviced locally. Also, I am now on my third go around with their support folks to get a shipping label and shipping box delivered. They keep promising it but nothing is delivered.

The machine seems great when it works but now I question its reliability. And H-P support is poor.

Do I need a network card….to access the server in my office, or does the motherboard include what I need (10/100Base-T network interface 56k modem) ?

I just received this computer last night and finally got it hooked up to the internet. I am very pleased with the speed and specs although a little disappointed that it is loaded w/ Vista Premium 32 bit instead of 64 bit. Had some problem connecting to the internet because the installed Norton trial software was preventing access to the web pages for some reason. Norton tech support was very helpful in assisting me. After it was uninstalled the computer worked great! Don’t forget to add your own security software! I agree w/ another review regarding the optical drive. You have to push it to get it to close and it feels a little flimsy. Overall I am so happy with my purchase. It is a Consumer Report best buy. Amazon shipping very speedy with the Amazon Prime membership!

We picked up this box for cheap from HP using the EPP program. It actually won an award from PC Magazine! My husband is using it as a test box for various things he does with computers. So far he was able to load Windows Home Server software on to it. He had to find XP drivers from the HP consumer support forum. Thus, if you want to run XP on this box, you can! Note that HP doesn’t provide support for XP or WHS for this box.

We planned to use this as a regular computer so we picked up a cheap wireless network card:

[...]Note that we haven’t tried it out yet. For now, the box sits next to our router without a monitor connected to it. We use it to backup our other computers and to stream media to our ps3. Just don’t ask me how it does it. :-)

    Worst PC I had
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I had this PC for week when the hard disk died. I called HP tech support and they reached this conclusion. I have spent hours on the phone with HP/Compaq and no one can figure out why. Their proposal to ship me bare bones disk. I opted for better one – returned it to Amazon. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER!

    Fantastic computer for the price
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My old PC recently died overnight, and since my budget doesn’t allow for much room right now, I scoured the Internet for deals in the this price range. For the money, this PC had the most bang, and I’ve been very happy with the purchase. RAM, processor, and HD are all powerful for this price point. The only drawbacks are VGA-only video output (not a concern in my case) and a relatively weak onboard 3D video card (it’s suitable for most business purposes and runs 3D games from a few years ago pretty well — but is way underpowered for today’s 3D games like Crysis). The system does come with a free upgrade to Windows 7 through HP, which I’m looking forward to trying.

Overall, very impressive — I don’t miss my old PC at all!
