Ideally suited for students ages six – 12, the teacher-developed and tested Math Blaster software supports educational objectives by way of a creative, imaginary universe that must be saved. Using intuitive math games incorporating addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fact families and equivalents students receive — at their own pace — instruction through thousands of challenging practice problems in order to master everyday math skills, increase problem-solving and mental math abilities as well as boost math confidence. more info
3rd Graders love it.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I work with 3rd Grade students that are from an inner city. They enjoy this game a lot because it plays like an action game. They get to shoot things that are in their way and the game will slow down if the child needs the extra time. I have to say since the children have just recently started using this program, I can’t say that it works. What I can say is that the game works on improving hand-eye coordination, mental math, and increases recall of math facts. I would recommend this game for the mere fact that it works on the previous items mentioned as well as make learning fun.
Just above average!

All in all not a bad game. My daughter is 6 years old and she loves the Math Blaster at school…which is an older version. I have XP and this was the newest version so I bought it. There is no support for a gamepad or joystick…only keyboard supported which has my daughter not playing it much, so if your child does not like the keyboard do NOT buy this game!!
There’s a line at my house

The neighbor kids and my grandkids stand in line for a turn to play this game. I’d rate it as a huge sucess!
“Math Blaster Master your keyboard up, down, left, right, space bar keys !!”

I wish i could go lower than 0 stars in rating this item. In this game, getting the right numbers to add (build the answer portion of the game) is 500 times harder than knowing the right answer. Just imagine your son already knowing the answer to 50 x 6 = 300 after 1 second but
has to stay at that level for more than 5 minutes to build the answer getting the addends to get 300 !!! It is a crazy educational game idea and a waste of your kid’s time. It’s a total waste of your money. Do not buy the download version too from the KA (Knowledge Advenuture) site, because it has a bug (Windows Vista) and you have to redownload again to re-install.
In fairness to KA, i am impressed with Math Blaster ages 9 – 12 and pre-algebra. This version of Math Blaster is not really that great as it claims to be .. KA to maintain their credibility in making worthwhile educational games should pull this product out of the market. Or better, offer their disappointed customers to replace their copy with another KA product …
I recommend Math Attack by Compedia – not that fancy graphics but gives your child the math drills to really master the basic. Try also “I Love Math” by DK. The title of this game should be “Math Blaster Master your keyboard up, down, left, right, spacebar keys !!!” I still can’t forgive myself for buying my son this boring game.
Don’t don’t don’t buy this!

This has to be the lamest math program I have ever seen! It’s jump from ledge to ledge trying to find numbers to add or subtract until you get the answer to an equation (ex: 3×7=?). Then you jump up and down ledges for 2-3 minutes trying to get numbers that add up to what you think the answer is and then jumping back to the bottom to see if the answer you have is correct. Boring and stupid, I want my kid to be able to answer it right away not jump around for minutes and then check if they have the correct answer. I bought six different math games that all turn out to be made by this company and all are just horrible, don’t buy any of the Math Blaster series or The Learning Company games, they are a waste of time and money. Search online for math games that you can try before you buy, also most of the free ones are much better than this.
Math Blaster: Master the Basics

I purchashed this product for my grandchildren. My granddaughter is in 4th grade and recently changed shcools to a new town. She was an “A” student in her old school, but the math program in her new school was really defeating her. Math Blaster made catching up to the advanced level of her new school easier and it is in game form. The plus to this product is that my grandson is in first grade and he loves to play the games and learn the math too. It has been a very helpful experience for both of them.
Have the people who rated it 5 stars actually played this game?

Let’s assume that like most people browsing these games, you want a game that will help your child either practice his math facts or reinforce/learn math concepts. If this is what you want, then keep on looking because this is not the game for you. If you want a game that has lots of noise and moving around with a very minimal amount of math added in an awkward manner, then this would be the game for you.
As someone who actually wanted a math game for my child to practice math with, this is by far the worst math program for my son. As others have pointed out, you’re required to run around and jump from ledge to ledge to catch numbers that will add up to the correct answer. That means that even if you know the correct answer, you spend almost all of your time trying to catch numbers.
There may be lines at some people’s houses to play this, but I can guarantee that those kids aren’t getting much math practice. Nice idea for a game, abysmal execution.
Frustrating

Ordered this twice. Never received it through USPS. Supose that had I opted for expressed shipping I would have received it.Gave up!
However, I have used this on my previous p.c and realized that its a wonderful programme for kids. Might try to order again later.

This product is a huge disappointment. My 8 year old children who like almost any computer game did not like this one. I tried it. It is poorly designed from a skill perspective. The graphics are good, but the games are dull and do not help kids learn math skills. I was angry I spent the money, because I wouldn’t encourage my children to waste any time on this program.
Good Mix of Math and Games

My 8-year old son loves playing this Math Blaster and the repetition of times tables and divisions helps him learn. For my taste there is a lot of simple game playing relative to calculating, so if you are looking for a game-based version of Kumon, this is not it. But for reinforcing math skills your child is acquiring the old-fashioned way, in a game environment boys love, Math Blaster is fine.
Not enough Math – - too much game
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this thinking it was an updated version of a Mathblaster computer game my older kids had years ago. It was a good review tool and they liked it. But this new Mathblaster is nothing like the old one. It is trying so hard to appeal to modern kids who play video games that there is too much gaming with very little math thrown in. I’m not happy with it at all since it’s not really reviewing much math. My 9yo son sort of likes it because it’s basically just another video game. But he doesn’t really play it that much.
My 2nd grader loves it – great math practice!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m not sure why the others are complaining – my second grader likes playing it, and it’s a great way to practice math and build speed while having fun. Especially since in his school they have timed tests that force them to be fast or lose points – this is a great way to build that speed up to the automatic level. I think this is way better than boring flash cards and can see my son’s addition and subtraction speeds improving almost immediately. The music and challenge level are really no different than many other video games out there, however this game helps improve math skills. It’s a no brainer in my book.
Do Do Do buy this game!

I’m a 10 year old boy—I play this game for hours. I find it very enjoyable. I like it more for the game than the math. The game helps you build quick thinking and reaction skills. I rank it as my favorite computer game ever.
Finally… a FUN learning game
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been through dozens upon dozens of learning games. All of them are glorified worksheets. They focus on the same old modalities and fail to harness to real potential of interactive games.
This game, however, is an arcade game first with learning worked in. So it’s fun. It’s easy. The controls are simple. My students with autism love it. Check with your local library first… they may have it.
I’ve read the complaints but we’ve not had any of those experiences here in the classroom.
Engaging and fun

My granddaughter is struggling with some aspects of division and multiplication. It took her a little bit to get the hang of the game but once she caught on she loves it. We use it as a reward for her accomplishing homework, chores, etc., and she can’t wait to play it!! If her enjoyment of the game translates into learning the concepts she has to use to advance levels, this will be a winner.
