Nice quality laptop for the money!

I recently purchased this new Toshiba laptop through Amazon.com to be used for College and so far I am really happy with it. UPS arrived at my door literally within 24hrs. after ordering it! After the initial set up it booted up just fine. After a couple of Vista automatic upgrades and it seems to be working like a charm with no technical hang-ups. The PC came bundled with a trial version of Norton 360(2.0) which I installed right away which allowed me to protect myself from the Internet and also back up my initial files to CD media. Really nice product Toshiba!
Shiny…..too shiny

Why on Earth Toshiba chose to use shiny black plastic for the surface of this laptop I’ll never know. For an Adrian Monk-ish freak like me, the fingerprints are going to be hard to get used to. The finger pad to move the pointer with is fantasticly devoid of prints which makes me wonder why this texture wasn’t used throughout.
Ignoring the cosmetics, the screen is pratically gigantic and very bright, both pluses in my book.
Another positive is the dial-controlled volume for the speakers. Much more senstive than the + and – on most laptops. This prevents the “silent to too loud” and lets you pick with much more accuracy the level of sound.
All in all, a good buy for the price.

I’ve had this computer for several months now and I love it. I selected it because it was a “best buy” selection on Consumer Reports at the time. It is light and handles all the tasks I need. I use it a lot for presentations including music, DVDs and Powerpoint. It replaced my old Dell notebook and performs as well for a lot less. I use Norton virus protection on it, have not upgraded to Windowa 7 yet and use Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. It is my home computer so have not run large spreadsheets requiring lots of processing power. It has my strong recommendation.

I am surprised that there are good reviews on Toshiba labtop, period. I used HP, Dell and Toshiba and I think the worst made is Toshiba. (Even their copy machine breaks down a lot at work). It’s very sensitive and easily gets slowed down. It doesn’t seem to like any antivirus software. If you leave it standing for just 15 minutes, you might as well restart; or else you will wait a very long time for each web page to download. I know that I am not a pro in computers but I didn’t have problem with Dell or HP before. On top of it their tech support is terrible and totally not worth renewing the insurance. All I can say is that I will not get close to anything made by Toshiba in the future.

this is an excellent laptop for everyday tasks like email, document & photo editing, itunes etc. it is not a gaming machine. it is among the lightest in its class at 5.4 pounds and looks solidly built. the preinstalled vista premium boots up fast. no issues that I can think of. some sites have talked about the power plug coming loose inside the laptop; hope toshiba has fixed it in this model. i removed the shovelware and norton, installed avg and IE8 and it works great.

The computer is great my daughter loves it! The only problem I had was with Amazon! I paid extra to have it deliver that Saturday and didn’t get it until Tuesday. When I called them that Sunday, they told me it had been delivered to the wrong address and they would send another free of charge. I was upset because they made me feel like it was my fault. My extra shipping was not refunded and UPS was mean to me. Now I’m scared to make purchases online because that was alot of money in limbo and no security.
Wish I had one for me

I got it for my wife over six months ago and it has been good to her. She is a nursing student and drops her laptop about once a week. This one has been able to withstand multiple impacts with the floor without problem. Maybe we have just been lucky but I am of the opinion that when my laptop dies, I will most likely order a Toshiba product myself.

The Toshiba Satellite L305-S5961 arrived on time and in perfect condition. It is as described by Amazon,and the reviews available at the time. The screen is very bright; the set-up simple and quick. I am uncertain about the 360 Norton Security package at this time. We are operating the computer with a WiFi Router, which is working well. Toshiba could have been more extensive with its instructions. So far we are satisfied after three weeks of operation.
